WASH

On this particular thematic area Community Support Initiative (CSI) will work to promote proper

sanitation and hygiene among communities to avoid diseases. It will be implementing its activities related to sanitation and hygiene. CSI will increase access to proper sanitation facilities, communities are encouraged to dig, construct and properly manage family pit latrines which are well covered to avoid flies which can move between the latrines and houses including into kitchens and may cause infections. Hand washing with soap after toilet use is encouraged in sensitization and awareness programs to prevent infections. Provision of clean water points requires a lot of financial resources especially it is to be done in remote areas CSI work to install clean water points when it is able to acquire resources to do so, but in most of its intervention in this area, CSI introduce water purification and treatment methods to communities. Communities are encouraged to discuss and find proper ways of managing their water resources. Proper management of water points like boreholes will ensure sustainability, repairs in times of damage and avoid conflicts. Managing water points for animals in a mutually agreeable way will also avoid conflicts.
