Education

Education is a human right for all throughout life and that access must be matched by quality. With South Sudan having one of the highest illiteracy rates in the world, CSI work to fight illiteracy among communities. Education is the key to sustainable development and is the only way South Sudanese will better understand their unity and get rid of tribalism and stereotypes about one another – this will reduce tendencies of tribal hatred and conflicts in the country. Development will open many opportunities for South Sudanese and CSI’s work involves helping communities through education and training programs.

CSI work towards encouraging communities to enroll their children in schools. Community Support Initiative (CSI) work within selected communities at the village urban levels to increase the enrollment of school-going age children and adults in basic education sectors.

In remote areas where basic schools are far from children, CSI work with the communities and other stakeholders to establish basic education schools and encourage the enrolment of children. This takes basic education closer to the children in selected villages and communities where CSI operates. An educational campaign of “Leave no child behind” and “Support girl child education and stop child/forced marriage” are launched in communities to ensure that every child gets basic education. The programs involve early childhood development so that children at lower age are developed and shown path to the better future.

The training programs includes establishing teachers training on basic teaching methodologies, training PTAs and School Management Committees (SMC).
