BEE FARMING IN MABAN COUNTY OF UPPER NILE STATE

Bee farmers in Maban County of Upper Nile state received Bee hives (kits) to pilot bee farming in the area.

A top bar hive, or moveable comb hive, is a box covered with bars of a fixed width. Bees will build their combs from the centre of the top bar, hanging down. To attract a swarm to the hive and to “guide” the bees in the construction of the combs, a strip of bees wax is melted on the centre of the bar.

Among others, here are the most notable features of the kit:

  1. Assembled and painted bottom board
Two brood boxes along with foundation and frames.
  2. A medium depth super with foundation and frames
  3. An inner cover, a top cover, a hive tool, and a bee brush
  4. Four by seven smoker and fuel
  5. Ventilated leather gloves and a hat veil pullover.
