Community Support Initiative

Community support initiative (CSI) is an indigenous South Sudanese humanitarian aid, relief, and development nongovernmental organization working to assist and empower people affected by poverty and disasters to live a life of dignity. It was founded in 2012 as a national Non Governmental Organization to provide emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution, or natural disaster within South Sudan. CSI is currently working in all the states within South Sudan where it resettles refugees, Internally Displaced
persons (IDP), and helps them become self-sufficient and resilient through the copying mechanism. CSI focuses mainly at community-based levels on access to justice & rules of law, women empowerment, Education, Food security and livelihoods, WASH, Health, Nutrition, HIV/Aids awareness campaigns, GBV, health, education, economic well-being, Protection inclusive of mental health and Psychosocial support (MHPSS) and local based peace initiatives.

Health and Nutrition

Most preventable Illnesses that are uncommon in most of the world continue to cause misery and unnecessary death in South Sudan; Poor nutrition, diarrhea, HIV/AIDS, malaria, anemia, tuberculosis, and complications during childbirth are a few examples. Community Support Initiative (CSI) responds to health related problems by strengthening the public health system alongside clinicians, hospital doctors, physical therapists, community health workers, midwives, teachers, health volunteers, medical students, and others. This is to enhance the most vulnerable person such as children U5 year, pregnant & lactating mothers,, adolescents, elderly, disables and people living with Hiv/Aids to have access to life saving and high quality & affordable healthcare and services.

Nutrition

Before the detailed implementation of the nutrition project, the community support initiative approached the community through a number of steps which includes:

  1. Meeting with the RRC coordinator in the camp and briefed him about the new intervention.
  2. The CSI organized for the inception meeting in which other relevant stakeholders such as CHD, RRC, community leaders, and the line ministries departments were called and the project details were discussed.
  3. During the project implementation process, they CSI M&E officer was engaged periodically with the community members through conducting accountability meetings and community engagement mechanism.

HIV/AIDS

Support provision of community based strategies to identify partners and children of HIV positive clients in Bor/ Malual Chaat in line with WHO guidelines and best practices. This targeted community based approach is more cost effective and may reduce the barriers to accessing HIV services by majority of the affected families. All final HIV status confirmation test that yield positive results will be documented and initiated on treatment at MMH or nearby treatment facility. Read more….

COVID19

Activities implemented under Covid-19

  • 1. Provision of awareness to avoid decongestion at public places to minimize physical contact
  • 2. Provision of hand wash facilities including constant supply of water and soap, and hand sanitizers to local population
  • 3. Provided Supervision of handwashing stations at the public gatherings
  • 4. Provision of personal protective equipment to beneficiaries.
  • 5. Provision of training preventives measures of Covid-19 to community stakeholders such as youth representatives, local leaders, and women representatives at the community level.
